Coming next summer will be a second installment of Winsor McCay’s classic Little Nemo. The popular “Little Nemo in Slumberland: So Many Splendid Sundays” did so well that a second volume will be created that will include Winsor’s work from 1910 to 1914 and 1924-1926. The volume will be 120-130 pages.

An exhibit entitled “Peanuts on Ice” has opened at the Schulz Museum. This new exhibit opened yesterday and runs through January 15th of 2007.
Washington Post Writers Group has added Lisa Benson to their portfolio of editorial cartoonists. Lisa, according to E&P, is a freelance artist and graphic designer from Victorville, CA and has drawn local cartoons for the Daily Press since 1992. In an effort to find more information on her, a google search brought up this article from the Daily Press from 2005.
MSNBC editorial cartoonist Daryl Cagle will be lecturing at Wabash College (men’s college in Crawfordsville, IN) where he will give a speech entitled “Being an Editorial Cartoonist: Everyone Wants to Kill Me and You May Too!” on September 28th. Daryl is also scheduled to speak visit the poli-sci department and meet with the school’s editorial cartoonist.
Chad Carpenter’s Tundra is a self-syndicated comic strip out of Alaska that is growing in popularity. Back in March the strip ran in 10 newspapers which has grown to 60 and Chad is hoping that by the end of the year he’ll top 100.
Over at the University of Virginia, there is a religious cartoon controversy brewing. Two comics ran on the 23rd and 24th of August – the first depicting the Crucifixion with a parabolic graph superimposed over Christ and the second features dialog between Mary and Joseph about an immaculately transmitted rash.
A quiet week for turnovers as the two mentioned are not permanent comics but features being tested out with the readers. The Bakersfield Californian is replacing the Pajama Diaries (registration required) after it’s six week test slot. Taking the helm in the test slot is A Lawyer, A Doctor & A Cop, by Kieran Meehan. Baldo creator’s Carlos Castellanos and Hector Cantu inserted one of their loyal readers into their September 5th strip – part of a fund-raiser for the Rubén Salazar Scholarship Fund. Barbara Fajardo has been immortalized in black and white after her two daughters won a silent auction during the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ convention last June. One of the daughters supplied Carlos with a photo of Barbara which was used to create her likeness.
Yesterday’s Prickly City by Scott Stantis paid a special tribute to Bob Thaves and his feature Frank & Ernest. Scott assisted Bob on his feature King Baloo years ago. Back in August, Darrin Bell paid a tribute to Bob in his Candorville as well. Bob passed away in early August at the age of 81. His son Tom will continue on with the feature.
Richard Thompson will be featured on the Washington Post’s live chat discussions today at noon (EST). Richard does a local comic called Cul de Sac for the Post each Sunday and also Richard’s Poor Almanac which appears in the Post on Saturdays.
Sandra Bell-Lundy, creator of Between Friends will be the judge in the fifth annual CanWrite! story contest. The contest is sponsored by the Canadian Authors Association which is open to all U.S. and Canadian residents who can produce an unpublished, fictional short story under 1,500 words.
Via Comics Curmudgeon and E&P is news that Mary Worth is worthy of YouTube. Again. The latest Mary Worth story line has Mary being stalked by the freaky Captain Kangaroo looking Aldo. The story line inspired a Benny Hill type 22 second video that was posted on YouTube.
