UN Cartooning for Peace seminar video available

I mentioned yesterday that several cartoonist from around the globe had descended in Manhattan to talk about cartooning, free speech and religion.  Attending from the U.S. is Mike Luckovich.  From ComicsDC blog comes news that Ann Telnaes was also there and that you can watch the streaming video.  To watch it, click the link and scroll down to the Special Event on October 16 (or do a find on “cartoon”).

Ed Stein to lecture at American Political Cartoonists exhibit

Ed Stein, editorial cartoonist for the Rocky Mountain News, will be speaking at the College of William and Mary (Virginia) on October 12 as part of the American Political Cartoonists exhibit that is running at the college through January 2007. Some of Ed’s work is on display as is a selection of work from Thomas Nast, Bill Mauldin, Dr. Seuss, Herbert Block (Herblock), Pat Oliphant, Garry Trudeau, Signe Wilkinson, and Hugh Haynie. Admission to the lecture is free. Hugh Haynie’s stuff can be seen online.

Mike Luckovich was on CNN’s American Morning on Friday Oct 6th to promote his news book – Four More Wars….  And — but we did decide to make him not get off scot-free, he’s, in addition to talking about his book, “Four More Wars,” he’s drawing a cartoon for us. Joel Pett lectures on cartooning during Archive’s Week

Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist Joel Pett will be the featured speaker for the University of Kentucky Libararies’ Special Collection and Digital Programs Archives Week.  Archives Week (running the week of Oct. 9) is a celebration of 50 years of archiving Kentucky’s newspapers in their library.

Joel is expected to talk about his career and influences.

Bell, Braddock, Jantze and Knight to speak at Schulz Museum

Several cartoonists will be speaking at an upcoming Charles M. Schulz Museum event on the October 21st on the topic of how Peanuts has influenced their work.  According to E&P, Darrin Bell Candorville, Paige Braddock Jane’s World, Michael Jantze The Norm, and Keith Knight The K Chronicles are the invited cartoonists. Lee Mendelson, the producer of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will also speak.

Daryl Cagle to speak at Wabash College

MSNBC editorial cartoonist  Daryl Cagle will be lecturing at Wabash College (men’s college in Crawfordsville, IN) where he will give a speech entitled “Being an Editorial Cartoonist: Everyone Wants to Kill Me and You May Too!” on September 28th. Daryl is also scheduled to speak visit the poli-sci department and meet with the school’s editorial cartoonist.
