With all the recent celebratory events and commemorations of the comic Dick Tracy‘s 75 year anniversary, one would be surprised to read that the Gould family has told the Woodstock City Council that the museum is in need of donations to keep the doors open. The museum draws 4,000 to 7,000 visitors a year and has an operating budget of $40,000. The Gould family contributes the lion share of the financial support, but requires $25,000 in annual donations to operate.  With a recognizable brand name such as Dick Tracy, one would think money would not be an issue, but TMS owns all the rights to royalties for the brand, so the Gould family doesn’t see any of that money.

Michael Jantz’s art work will be featured at Cartoonlandia in San Francisco on October 19.  Mark Fiore’s work will also be shown.

E&P reports that a wall from a Colorado Springs home where Charles Schulz lived has been removed and sent to the Charles M….  The wall had been repainted by later residents, but Stan and Polly Travnicek who bought the home in 1979, learned about the paintings underneath and successfully removed the layers of paint to reveal the original artwork below (consisting of characters from Peanuts and other storybooks).

Next Saturday, the 14th, the Toy and Action Figure Museum (which also houses the Oklahoma Cartoonist’s collection) will be celebrating their first year in operation….  Three of the inductees are comic strippers – Chester Gould, who was born in Oklahoma and went on to create Dick Tracy; Bill Mauldin, whose first cartoons were published in the Daily Oklahoman; and Dick Locher who (and I think they’re stretching things here) is an Oklahoman by association because of his work on the Dick Tracy strip.Attending the celebration will be Alley Oop producers Jack and Carole Bender.For information on dates, locations, click the link above.

“Cartoon America: Highlights from the Art Wood Collection of Cartoon and Caricature” will run from Nov. 2 to Jan. 27…

The National Cartoon Musuem will not be opening next spring in the Empire State Building in downtown Manhattan according to Comic Reporter Tom Spurgeon.

An exhibit entitled “Peanuts on Ice” has opened at the Schulz Museum.  This new exhibit opened yesterday and runs through January 15th of 2007.

The Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace exhibit is now featured in Shreveport LA. 

E&P is reporting that the National Cartoon Museum will received $1.8 million from the New York City Department of Culture Affairs and the city council.
