Missed It: Paxton Went With KFS
Skip to commentsWhile we noticed that the Gannett, Lee, McClatchy, Advance, Horizon, PostMedia, and Wicks newspaper groups all unified their comics pages across the lines, with some signing exclusively with one syndicate or another, we missed following up on the Paxton Media Group signing with King Features at the time change from 2024 to 2025.

I noted a change in a new Paxton paper early this year (scroll to the bottom) but failed to follow through.
At the time of that notice Paxton was in the middle (between Dec 31, 2024 and January 7, 2025) of all their daily newspapers switching to a unified comics page featuring only King Features Syndicate (KFS) comics.

The Paxton Group switched from a mixture of King Feature, Creators, and Andrews McMeel comics to a strictly King Features comics page. The new Paxton comics page contains The Family Circus, Dennis the Menace, Arctic Circle, Bizarro, Beetle Bailey, Rhymes with Orange, Blondie, Curtis, Zits, Dumplings*, Hagar the Horrible, Candorville**, Barney Google and Snuffy Smith, Sally Forth, Dustin, and Mutts.
- * King seems to have been pushing the new Dumplings comic strip at that time, when Horizon went with King Dumplings was part of that lineup too.
- ** Six Chix would replace Candorville with the January 18, 2025 editions.
Losing out were the Creators strips B.C. and Wizard of Id and the Andrews McMeel comics Baby Blues, Crabgrass, Garfield, and Pickles.
The Paxton semi-weekly newspapers run a half page of comics which also changed at the same time.

Winners in that change from King Features was The Family Circus, Dennis the Menace, Zits, Hagar the Horrible, Dustin, and Mutts. Gone were B.C., Wizard of Id, Crabgrass, Garfield, and Pickles.
Wikipedia lists about 50 “daily” Paxton newspapers though some, like The Log Cabin Democrat and The Kentucky Standard, are semi-weekly. None of Paxton’s weekly papers that I checked ran comics.
