NYC Paper Getting Comics Page

A New York City paper will be introducing a new comic strip page to its readers next month.

No, not the New York Post. And certainly not The New York Times. Instead the monthly The Village Star-Revue will begin running a comic strip page edited by cartoonist Marc Jackson with its June 2025 edition.

From John Freeman and downthetubes:

Who says newspaper strips are a thing of the past? Not comic creator and Macc-Pow Comic Art Festival organiser Marc Jackson that’s for sure… because he’s just landed a plumb job curating a page of them for a New York newspaper, Village Revue.

Starting in June, a full page of comics curated by Marc, including his own “Ha Ha Harold“, comes to the Village Revue – a free community newspaper for the East and West Village and SoHo areas of New York City. Also featuring will be the work of cartoonists Tom Scioli, Mat Greaves, Tor Freeman, James Kochalka, Luke McGarry and Mika Song, the latter from Brooklyn, Queens.

The Village Star-Revue began publishing in October 2024 joining its sister paper The Red Hook Star-Revue which had been publishing since 2010. The Village Star-Revue has been carrying Marc Jackson’s Funny Side Up all along and the May issue had a couple strips from famed New York City cartoonist Stan Mack.

From Marc Jackson:

“Since 2014, I’ve been producing a monthly comic strip for my editor George Fiala at the Red Hook Star Revue, in Brooklyn,” Marc tells downthetubes. “Last year, we finally met during my first trip to New York City, and last month I returned to attend Brooklyn Independent Comics Showcase and we met up again.

“Over really great Ukrainian food, George told me about his idea for a full page of comics in the Village Revue paper, he felt the area and the paper would really benefit it. He offered me the chance to curate the page, giving me a budget to do what I wanted with the paper. So, obviously, I bit his hand off! What an opportunity!

It remains to be seen if Stan Mack comics will remain.

Also unknown if the comics page will run in the older, more established Red Hook Star-Revue.
