Sneak Peek at the New GoComics

In a few days (April 1, 2025) the new GoComics website will present itself to the world at large, and while we don’t have any details as to most of what will be new and improved we have an idea of what it may look like.

Yeah the new (top) page is going to look snazzier than the old (bottom) page. That extends to the A – Z index.

I am going to assume that the advertising will not be appearing on paid subscriber pages.

There does seem to be on change in the A-Z/A to Z page:

old a’s
new a’s

The political cartoonists are no longer included in the new Comics A to Z index, having their own page. The “old” GoComics listed them on the A-Z Comics by Title page and in their own page.

Another change is that the political cartoonists will be listed “in alphabetical order by first name.”

I will save judgement for when the all the changes are seen in a few days, but there is some sadness on what I see in this preliminary look. Years ago GoComics dropped the Andrews McMeel features Biographic and KidSpot and others from the site, it seems those are not returning. Neither is Reply All/Reply All Lite, now with Counterpoint, though that syndicate’s Barney & Clyde is carried by GoComics. Also I was hoping Shrimp & Grits would finally be added to the site along with the other Creators Syndicate features Caption It! and Humor Me, a hope that is to be dashed. The very faint hope that Tribune Content Agency’s Zoolies would find a place at GoComics is also not going to happen, though why should GoComics carry it when TCA’s own site doesn’t.

Come Tuesday, April 1st, we will see all the changes to the new GoComics.

Oh! Two more things.

By the looks of it reader commentary is returning to political cartoon pages.

  1. Based on this, the damage appears to be relegated to improvements in some categories and deprovements in others. The color scheme is great, but it looks a little more complicated and looks like it would take more computing power, which would make it slower.

  2. Having an alphabet bar on the A-Z page will be an improvement, but I’m against alphabetizing editorial cartoonists by first name. Those of us actively familiar with our colleagues know their first names, but I’d be surprised if half of their casual readers do.

  3. SHORTER: “Here’s a new way for you to read Calvin and Hobbes.”

  4. Let’s hope many won’t switch to ArcaMax with this GoComics reboot!

  5. I like how the updated strips now have a notification on the main page.

  6. I’m hoping I won’t have to pay to read it all like Comics Kingdom. I don’t want to pay $45 for past Funky books and resort to pirating Crankshaft and FW (I don’t want to cheat the elderly),as you can’t read it anywhere else.

    1. i’m hoping the same thing as well

  7. I can’t log in the new website. I get tis message, “The request is blocked.”

    1. It looks like the update didn’t go as planned.

    2. Most likely something borked the update, so GC put up a ‘wall’ so they can sort out what went wrong.

This kinda feels like a very bad April Fool (not) joke.

  8. ‘Great update’, Go Comics. (/sarc)

“Service unavailable”, “The request is blocked”

Seriously, this is not very auspicious, certainly not something that will make someone considering getting a subscription.

  9. Now I get the following messages:

“Our services aren’t available right now.

“We’re working to restore all services as soon as possible. Please check back soon.”

This is not a great update, more like a very bad April Fool (not a) joke.

  10. Aaaand we’re back to “The request is blocked.”

  11. I don’t see reader comments at all. Looks like it is read-only.
