Soon after graduating from the Joe Kubert School Ed (and fellow JKS alumni Rex Lindsey) found work at Archie Comics. Ed was mostly writing scripts for the comic books during the mid-1980s (credits after 1987 are reprints). Early on in that period, 1983-84 Ed was also supplying gags and layouts for the Archie comic strip.

A few Archie comic strips I wrote/sketched 1982-84, I owe my friend Rod a debt of gratitude for that opportunity, …or at least a lunch…My writing philosophy was simple, primarily band and girls…

In 1984 Berdej became art director for The (Morris County, NJ) Daily Record.

The Daily Record Newspaper, 1984, I was 24, I really didn’t like being the Art Director, too many late nights, but I did like coming back years later as the Freelance Editorial Illustrator, that was rewarding & grateful for the opportunity…

Part of his freelance projects was contributing to King Features’ The New Breed, a portal for showcasing young cartoonists. Ed was credit for those panels as “Edw. A. Berdej.”

“Painful Humor” back cover blurb

As mentioned Ed returned to The Daily Record as a freelancer from 1997 – 2001, among other opportunities.

Berdej worked for many companies (AT&T, Lucent, Gannett Outdoor, Exxon Research, etc.) but…

I stopped producing 2 dimensional art in 2007.

Since that time Ed’s focus has been on painting and sculpture.
