The MLive Media Group has announced it is adding comic strips to their print editions. Two new comics to their Sunday Funnies and 12(!) to their daily comics pages:
Starting March 18, our eight Michigan newspaper titles are adding 8 new comic strips to our Sunday newspaper lineup – 6 will be available in our online newspaper editions and 2 will appear in print [emphasis added].
On weekdays, the additions total a whopping 69 new comics – 57 of them available in the online newspaper and 12 of them in printed editions [emphasis added].
(Yes, they are adding to their online comics, but we will highlight the print additions.)
If no daily comics are being cut that will result in nearly two full pages of comics. Last month’s daily pages:
The good news was tempered with some bad news:
I don’t have enough space to list all these new comics [emphasis added]. However, I can tell you what is going away from Sunday print editions in this transition: Baldo, F Minus, Hocus Focus and Speed Bump [emphasis added]. HOWEVER: All of the comics moving out of print will be available at www.mlive.com/allcomics/.
So two added to Sundays but three and an illustrated puzzle feature going for a net minus 1 and a half.
The Flint Journal Sunday Funnies from January 2025:
The MLive Media Group, a branch of Advance (Newhouse) Publications, consists of The Ann Arbor News,The Bay City Times, The Flint Journal, The Grand Rapids Press, Jackson Citizen Patriot, Kalamazoo Gazette, Muskegon Chronicle, and The Saginaw News. All are actual daily newspapers publishing seven days a week.
Checking a couple of the papers’ it looks like the group prints the exact same comics pages and the comics come from a variety of sources: Andrews McMeel, Creators, and King Features.
