Tea Fougner, King Features Part
Skip to commentsYesterday Tea Fougner, Editorial Director of King Features Syndicate (KFS) comics since 2018, posted on her LinkedIn page that she has stepped down from her position at KFS and from the company itself.
Today was my last day at King Features.
I was offered a choice between a reduced role and a severance package, and I took it as a sign that the universe is telling me to try new things! I have been there for 16 years! I will always look back fondly at my time with King, and I am so grateful for the many opportunities I had “growing up” there into the professional I am today.
That same LinkedIn account details Tea’s association with King Features since 2008:
King Features 16 yrs 2 mos
- Associate Editor Dec 2008 – Jun 2013 · 4 yrs 7 mos
- Editorial Project Manager Jul 2013 – Dec 2016 · 3 yrs 6 mos
- Digital Project Manager Jan 2017 – Nov 2018 · 1 yr 11 mos
- Editorial Director, Comics Nov 2018 – Jan 2025 · 6 yrs 3 mos
Among her early accomplishments was enlarging King Features’ digital comics footprint by bringing a diverse crew of cartoonists to create episodes of Popeye’s Cartoon Club and Flash Forward.
Some of those cartoonists moved on to regular assignments for King Features – Randy Milholland on the Sunday Popeye and Dan Schrade on the reincarnated Flash Gordon. Other accomplishments include bringing Jules Rivera to Mark Trail and Bianca Xunise as part of the Six Chix group. And many more over the past six years.
Tea, as Executive Director, also had to deal with the press about problems and promotions like the silly brouhaha over Xunise’s mask cartoon and organizing the fun No Pants Day project.
CJ Kettler, President of King Features Syndicate, responded to our inquiry:
Tea is off for a new adventure! She will always be a part of the King Features family and I’m confident that we will continue to work together in other ways. Amy Anderson assumed the role of Comics Editor (as well as Puzzles and Columns) while Tea was on leave, and will continue in that capacity.
We echo CJ’s comment: “You will be missed … All my best to you!
