Charlie Hebdo to Mock God for 10th Anniversary of Attack
Skip to commentsTo commemorate the 10th anniversary of the deadly Charlie Hebdo office attack, the French satirical magazine is inviting cartoonists from around the world to submit cartoons mocking God. The deadline for submission is December 18 at 6pm French time.
The contest was announced in their November 14 edition calling for those who are “tired of living in a society ruled by God and religion” or “tired of all the religious leaders who dictate our lives” to send them cartoons. They do not indicate creators of any of the winning cartoons will be compensated aside from being featured in the magazine.
Ten years ago on January 7, 2015, two French-born Algerian Muslim brothers attacked the magazine’s office killing 12 individuals and injuring 11 others. The brothers claimed their attack was a retaliation after the magazine published caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. Among the dead were four cartoonists: Charb, Cabu, Georges Wolinski and Tignous (Bernard Verlhac).
Charlie Hebdo is published on Wednesday. Winning cartoons will likely be published in their January 8th edition, one day after the 10th anniversary.
