Please Support Cartoonists Rights on Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday, a day marked for giving back to your community. As a cartoonist or one who appreciates their contribution to society, please consider donating to Cartoonists Rights Network International to support their efforts to defend and assist threatened editorial cartoonists around the world.

Cartoonists Rights is the first human rights nonprofit with the specific mission of protecting the free speech and freedom of political cartoonists. In 2025, the world is not getting any safer for cartoonists. Countries continue to pass vaguely worded laws that are then used to label and jail cartoonists as ‘seditionists’ or ‘terrorists.’ Once an exemplar of tolerance for free speech, the United States has seen shifting sands. President-elect Donald Trump has said he’d use the military against ‘left-wing radicals’ and ‘the enemy from within.’ Whether he will follow through with his rhetoric remains to be seen, but free speech without fear of backlash from online mobs, death threats or harassment has already been eroded in America.

For 25 years the organization has come to the assistance of hundreds of cartoonists. Between today and Christmas they are asking for your help to raise $20,250 to continue their mission. Visit cartoonistsrights.org/donate to donate. They will also be posting more announcements related to their pledge drive via their social media accounts for the next three weeks. Give them a follow: Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon.
