Reader Faves Return to AV Press

Two months ago we reported that The Antelope Valley Press was among some Horizon newspapers making changes to their comics and puzzle pages. After a hue and cry from their reading public the newspaper has again revised their comics and puzzle pages. This time adding back some comic strips that were cut in the earlier adjustment.

An announcement from last week’s Antelope Valley Press:

You spoke, and we listened.

Fans of the Antelope Valley Press comics and puzzles pages expressed their dismay when those pages were changed, omitting their favorite features.

Now, they are coming back.

Starting Tuesday, the Valley Press will publish several returning features, such as “Classic Peanuts,” “Pickles,” “Jumble” and the New York Times crossword puzzle. This will be in addition to the regular comics and puzzles page.

Be sure to look for them in Tuesday’s Antelope Valley Press.

The Tuesday August 20, 2024 Antelope Valley Press comics. The AV Press does not publish on Mondays so the paper runs Monday and Tuesday comics and puzzles in their Tuesday editions. (Apologies for the thumbnails – they come from The Antelope Valley Press via Press Reader.)

The middle pages of both rows above show the King Features Syndicate comics of the revised comics pages of two months ago with a lineup of Beetle Bailey, Dumplings, Zits, Blondie, Never Been Deader, Hagar the Horrible, Insanity Streak, Dennis the Menace, and Family Circus.

The pages on the right of both rows above show the returning (and in one case new to the paper) comics, all from Andrews McMeel Syndication. They are Peanuts, For Better of For Worse, Pickles, Garfield, and Arlo and Janis (the newbie).

Also the illustrated Jumble puzzle from Tribune Content Agency returns.

Not mentioned in our previous report is the bottom left image from above where Mallard Fillmore (King Features) and Prickly City (Andrews McMeel) had been running on the Opinion page, continued to run after the revision in June 2024, and continues to run to this day.
