An exhibit of cartoon art called Cartoon Ey Bidroho (Rebellion in Cartoons) is on display at the Drik Gallery in Dhaka Bangladesh. The exhibit celebrates the cartoons and art that inspired and fueled the revolution that culminated last month with the toppling of the Bangladesh government. During the Sheikh Hasina administration, freedom of expression and criticism of the government were severely punished.

From The Business Standard, ASM Rezaur Rahman, General Manager of Drik and curator of the exhibition says,

“Cartoons have always been a powerful tool in protests, but for a long time, there was a noticeable absence of cartoonists. Various factors contributed to this silence. However, during the student protests, we witnessed a remarkable shift as young cartoonists cast aside their fears and began creating political cartoons.”

The exhibit features 175 pieces from over 80 cartoonists and was organized by The Bangladesh Cartoonist Association, Drik (an independent media organization), e-arki (a popular entertainment and satire website). The exhibit runs August 23rd.
