The Silverton, Oregon Homer Days are over, as is their 2024 Davenport International Cartoon Contest.
The Homer C. Davenport cartoon contest entries are judged on
1. Artistic Skill: What is the technical skill of the artist’s work?
2. Implied Message: Was the message of the cartoon clear and obvious?
3. Over-All Appeal: Was the cartoon effective?
Following that criteria the three judge panel declared a Heidie Ambrose cartoon the Grand Prize Winner.
Also judged as winners were Garth German (1st Prize), Daniel Boris (2nd Prize), and Carole Duree (3rd Prize).
All submitted cartoons were on display as part of the early August Homer Days and festival goers had the opportunity to rate their favorite of the cartoons, and the top five vote (goat?) getters (that did not end up with judges’ prizes) were also listed, with Jahn Pablo Piklosso winning the first place People’s Choice ribbon.
The other top five People’s Choice cartoon winners were Ava E. Spencer, Steve Greenberg, Charles Schneider, and Gerald Peigneux. (Gerald Peigneux also offered a gallery of 2024 Paris Olympic Games cartoons).
Regular readers of Mike Peterson’s Comic Strip of the Day column here will recognize several of the cartoonists.
And just like the festival attendees you can view and judge all the cartoon entries here.
