Founded in 1950, the Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade is the nation’s oldest regional journalism contest. It highlights the best journalism in North Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Found out over the weekend that I won First Place in the Green Eyeshade Journalism Awards for a batch of cartoons titled “Drawing tough love in a red state.” Props to my friend and cartooning colleague Dennis Draughon for taking Third Place in the competition. I don’t do this work to win awards, but it’s a nice little surprise when it happens. Thanks to you all for your support – and for putting up with me.
