Comic Strips and Comic Strip Cartoonists

Andrews McMeel Syndication notes 40 years of Adam by Brian Bassett/Adam @ Home by Rob Harrell with a banner that implies that Rob was the cartoonist for all those 40 years instead of only the last fifteen years. So far there is no accompanying article paired with the 40th image.

Adam @ Home debuted on July 2, 1984. (Or maybe July1, 1984?) The comic strip was titled Adam until 1998.

I realize it is not the Semiquincentennial, it being only 248 years since the signing of The Declaration of Independence, but it is still surprising to me that only Andy Marlette with his Shrimp & Grits seems to be spending the week celebrating The Fourth of July.

Others, beside Gasoline Alley will, I’m sure, celebrate the occasion on The Fourth.

Among the comic strip conceits I’m partial to is when cartoonists break a long continuous drawing into panels. Today’s exhibit is The Dark Side of the Horse, particularly the tree separating panels two and three.

Comic Kingdom throws the spotlight on Hilary B. Price.

… Hilary’s journey into the world of cartooning is a testament to her innovative spirit. Graduating from Stanford University, she made history at just 25 years old as the youngest-ever female syndicated newspaper cartoonist. Her comic strip, Rhymes with Orange, has brought fresh perspectives to the comics page, resonating with readers across the globe. This spirit of innovation has earned her the prestigious Best Newspaper Panel Cartoon award from the National Cartoonists Society four times! …

They note:

Exciting news for 2024: Hilary is nominated for the Reuben Award for Outstanding Comic of the Year!

I’ll note: For the 12th time! Will this be Hilary’s year?

Jim Keefe: Sketches & Drawings PDF

Jim Keefe: Sketches & Drawings was a limited edition comic book from 2008 featuring various commission work I’ve done. The PDF includes spot art of Flash Gordon, Sheena, Dragonblood, Terry and the Pirates, and much more.

And a quick heads up that it’s free for Premium members.

Jim Keefe (Flash Gordon, Sally Forth) offers an e-comic.
