In and About the Comics Pages

The end of Spring can only mean that with the heat SLUDGEZILLA RETURNS!

Shrimp & Grits conjecture on the reality of the mythical monster this week.

I’m quite sure I am not the only person to complain about the awful features page. No Pickles , lousy crossword puzzle and no cryptograph. Renewal will probably not happen!

Godfrey Daniels!

Greg Cravens has taken comic strip cursing to a whole ‘nother level in The Buckets.

I understand changes sometimes need to happen but when changes are made to the features page I can’t recall such a drastic change. Sad to see some of my favorite comics go away as well as Dear Abby and the downsized crossword puzzle.

Inspiration without attribution.

Thursday’s Looking Good on Paper immediately called to mind the famous Gahan Wilson Playboy cartoon.

I probably would have let it slide but a day or two before I saw Eric Allie adapt fellow cartoonist KC Green’s work without so much as an “apologies to” note.

Why the changes in the Comic’s page today????

Will it replace us?

Dana Simpson, with a wonderful and perfect turn of the phrase, adapts the current artistic bugaboo to this week’s Phoebe and Her Unicorn comic strip.

What in heaven’s name have you done to the comics? Where is Dear Abby column?

Also…

Pooch Cafe gave me the LOL of the week with a great illustrated simile of Chazz feeding Poncho.

Today’s paper has changed the cartoon page. Also no more dear Abbey. Is this a permanent change I work at several houses that subscribe to the paper and everyone is very upset.

Timing.

Prickly City has been showing this month’s debate preparations this week and switched from faux Biden to faux Trump on the same day the real Trump broached the subject of purposely losing the first debate.

In regards to the new comics page, I give it two thumbs DOWN. Nice to see some new comic strips but what happened to the rest of them? The crossword puzzle is also a reduced version of what we normally get. And, although according to “See Inside” on A1, there is no Advice column on B8, unles…

Letters to the Editor.

In La Cucaracha The Barrio Bugle has received letters about the comic strip they run.

At least we know what the problem is there. Unknown is what changes to the syndicated features were made at The (Marysville) Appeal Democrat that upset so many readers. I’m unable to find a before or after sample of their comics page or any notice of changes. But they messed with the funny pages and were taken to the woodshed.

I’m very disappointed with the Appeal Democrat.
