Comic strips Editorial cartooning

Mr Mayor – New Local Cartoonist

In this week’s paper, you will notice a few feature on our opinion page: a new comic strip called ‘Mr. Mayor.’

It has been a dream of mine for years to write a local comic strip or an editorial cartoon about local issues and ‘Mr. Mayor’ is a little bit of both.

If you want to get your comic and/or cartoon into a newspaper it helps if you own a newspaper.

Cartoonist Ryan D. Wilson introduces the readers of The Clay Center Dispatch to Mr. Mayor.

I want to emphasize, though, that while the main character of the strip is based on our beloved mayor and bears his likeness and mannerisms, the character is a separate person from Clay Center Mayor Jimmy Thatcher or any other mayor I’ve known. The ‘Mr. Mayor’ in the strip is a caricature of mayors I’ve known through the years and also includes a bit of what I would do as mayor. The public should also be aware that conversations and comments within the strip aren’t actual conversations and should not be viewed as direct or paraphrased quotes.

From Ryan’s Facebook page:

It’s been a dream of mine for many years to write and draw my own comic strip. This week that dream became realized as we debuted “Mr. Mayor” in The Dispatch, which will also appear in The Union next week. Looking for other papers who are interested in running this.
