Yesterday in the Cartoonist Chat editorial cartoonist Steve Breen broke the news. Today come details.
From Steve Breen via X/Twitter:
I’m thrilled to announce I’ve joined to team of dedicated journalists at inewsource, a nonprofit, investigative news site here in San Diego. Here’s my first cartoon. Check us out http://inewsource.org
I’m thrilled to announce that I am now part of the team at inewsource In San Diego. They’re a nonprofit, investigative news site and they have been doing great work since 2009. (motto: “Truth matters.”) I’ll be creating editorial cartoons, animated GIFs and illustrations to help reporters tell their stories. We will even do a cartoon caption contest. The goal is to use the art to bridge SD communities and local news. I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited to roll up my sleeves and get inking. Or digitizing, anyway. From the inewsource introduction of Steve:
Journalism is about many things. Solid, trustworthy information. Holding powerful people to account. It’s about exposing systemic injustices and elevating everyday voices.
At its most powerful, though, journalism is about telling stories.
Today, I am thrilled to tell you that inewsource is bringing aboard one of the region’s great storytellers: cartoonist Steve Breen.
Steve Breen is a community treasure, and we, at inewsource, are giving him a new home so he can continue to serve this region with his cartoons, illustrations and animations. But his new job is much more than editorial cartooning: Steve’s primary mission is to help our reporters tell their groundbreaking investigations visually, artistically. We want and need to reach more people and engage them in issues that affect them.
