Maria Scrivan has decided to pull her Half Full comic from print newspaper syndication.
She will continue the panel as a webcomic, albeit on a reduced schedule.
Maria informed her fans of the changes with the Monday, May 15, issue.
Maria told The Daily Cartoonist:
It was a childhood dream come true to see Half Full in newspapers for the last ten years. After my fifth graphic novel in the Nat Enough series, I realized my creative spirit needed space to tell more stories, and write more books. I am reducing my daily deadline to a few days a week as I retire from newspaper syndication, but continue to create Half Full on GoComics.com. I am so grateful to work with the amazing team at Andrews McMeel, and for my readers who can continue to follow Half Full on gocomics.com/half-full.
Maria’s books and the promotional activities associated with them and her increasing speaking engagements resulting from those books’ popularity (she’s at The Charles M. Schulz Museum next week) barely leaves time for breathing, something had to give. But she couldn’t completely give up her first love so Half Full will continue (what else is she to do with those gag lines that keep popping up in her mind?).
Half Full began September 16, 2013 where it now is, as a webcomic on GoComics. By the end of 2013 the panel was appearing in print in two newspapers in Connecticut. Within a year and a half of the panel’s GoComics debut Half Full became a syndicated comic. Two years ago Maria switched syndicates, moving from Tribune Content Agency to Andrews McMeel Syndication. (Note: as that last link shows Maria will no longer have to reconfigure her vertical web panel to a horizontal version for newspapers.)
The details:
HALF FULL
by Maria Scrivan
[?December 2?] 2013 – May 14, 2023
daily and Sunday panel
Greenwich Times/Stamford Advocate [December 2?] 2013 – on; Tribune Content Agency March 15, 2015 – January 11, 2021; Andrews McMeel Syndication January 12, 2021 – May 14, 2023 (last first run panel was on April 29, 2023, reruns from April 30-May 14, 2023).
The panel began as a GoComics webcomic on September 16, 2013.
The panel continues as a thrice-weekly webcomic May 15, 2023 on.
So along with R.F.D., Mt. Pleasant, and oddly Dilbert, Half-Full is the 4th. newspaper comic strip to cease in 2023. But Half-Full lives on as a webcomic.
