Syndicate comics editor and gay rights advocate Sharon Malheiro has passed away.
Sharon Malheiro passed peacefully in her sleep on April 10, 2023…
She attended Drake University, class of 1978, graduating with a Degree in Journalism. From 1979 to 1987 she served as managing editor of the Des Moines Register and Tribune syndicate, after which, in 1988, she got a law degree from Drake Law School. She was registered with the Iowa bar for over 30 years.
Sharon joined the Register and Tribune Syndicate in 1979 and soon became comics editor at the syndicate and stayed with the organization when it was renamed Cowles Syndicate (after the newspaper family that owned it). She was promoted to managing editor of the syndicate in 1985.
King Features Syndicate bought Cowles Syndicate in 1986 and Sharon went for a time with the Hearst company.
