From 1922: Origins of The Sunday Funnies

The colored comic supplement is regarded by foreigners visiting this country for purposes of study as one of our natural wonders ranking with Niagara Falls, the Mammoth Cave and the Hylan administration. But even those visitors who remain here long enough to admit that ice water is not a vice but a grateful refreshment do not understand the popularity of this weekly budget of entertainment or realize that it is the final fruition of a process in humorous development that began many, many years ago.
