[O]ur picks for the best books of 2022. We’ve got 150 selections in total, spread across all the categories we review in. They’re led by our top 10, an especially strong grouping this year that includes a graphic memoir of life on the Canadian oil fields, a sharp reappraisal of the life of J. Edgar Hoover, and the singular and spellbinding latest from Namwali Serpell.
From the Who Will Make the Pancakes review
Kelso’s long-awaited new collection show off her nimble cartooning, ear for dialogue, and skill for drawing small moments and gestures that ground the women at the center of these tales, told across decades and genres, as true to life. The stunning “Watergate Sue,” which presents a precisely told Nixon-era family drama, is worth the price of admission alone.
Spoiler: Watergate Sue remains online from its 2007 New York Times Magazine run.

10 Times Calvin & Hobbes Broke Our Hearts
© Bill Watterson
Comic Book Resources presents a selection of Bill Watterson‘s heartbreaking comic strips.
The comics page in the newspaper is known as “the funny pages” for a reason. People often read daily comic strips to have a quick laugh. For the decade it was printed, Calvin & Hobbes, the daily comic strip about a boy and his toy/pet tiger, gave readers plenty of laughs. Unlike some other comics, however, Bill Watterson’s beloved strips often pulled at readers’ heartstrings or broke their hearts completely.
Spoiler: Our sample above is not included.
I would think that Liniers (Macanudo) would be in that list of comic artists.
