Masha Zhdanova Takes 2022 Locher Award

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonist announced today that Masha Zhdanova
was named the winner of The 2022 John Locher Memorial Award.
The John Locher Memorial Award is a contest for emerging cartoonists, ages 18-25, whose work demonstrates both clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics.
The Judges statement:
Masha’s appealing loose drawings blend the personal with political and historical context. With graphic experiments, her short comics lend insight into authoritarianism and provide intimate viewpoints from the war in Ukraine. Masha is a wonderful storyteller, and her specific stories make larger statements about history and current events.
Alexandra Bowman and Han Hampy were finalists in the competition.
