Originally built in 1935, Terry Manor is a fully restored and renovated Tudor-style home set on nearly an acre of park-like property in Lawrence Park West, a tree-lined neighborhood in Westchester County.

Keith Knight’s Woke Cancelled

It’s only been three months since Woke season 2 arrived on Hulu, but it doesn’t appear that the live action-animated comedy did big enough numbers to justify a third. Deadline reports that the show, inspired by the life of artist Keith Knight, has been cancelled after just 16 episodes.

The show followed the life of Keef Knight, a Black cartoonist behind the deliberately light Toast & Butter comic.

Tom’s Guide reports, including:

That’s a pity, as the [Rotten Tomatoes] audience score jumps from 76% for the first season to a massive 97% for the second (opens in new tab).

Dirty Laundry: Allegations of Microaggressions Against Comics Professor

A Michigan Daily investigation found numerous previously undisclosed allegations against Gloeckner of perpetuating racial and gender-based microaggressions. The investigation also found that both Art & Design administrators and the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) were repeatedly made aware of these allegations between the fall of 2020 and winter of 2021.

In an email to The Daily, Gloeckner pointed to the University’s response to the allegations against her.

“(The complaints) were already examined by U-M, and the university decided to close the matter over a year and half ago,” Gloeckner wrote. “The other allegation from (ACA) is simply outrageous, and absolutely untrue.”

The Michigan Daily investigates.

Lawyers File to Dismiss Obscenity Charges Against Gender Queer

© Maia Kobabe

First filed in May by lawyer and Republican Virginia assembly delegate Tim Anderson on behalf of plaintiff and Republican congressional candidate Tommy Altman, the suits allege that the graphic memoir Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe and A Court of Mist and Fury by bestselling author Sarah J. Maas—are “obscene for unrestricted viewing by minors.”

But in filings late last week, lawyers for Kobabe and her publisher, Oni Press, and Maas and her publisher Bloomsbury, along with lawyers for Barnes & Noble, told the court the suits as filed are defective and the remedy sought unconstitutional.

“The petition and show cause order are facially defective because [the Virginia law] does not authorize a court to declare that the book is ‘obscene for unrestricted viewing by minors.’”

Publishers Weekly updates the lawsuit.

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund joins coalition in support of the authors.
