Sherman’s Lagoon Relocates to Andrews McMeel
Skip to commentsSherman’s Lagoon, the comic strip created by Jim Toomey in 1991,
is beginning its fourth decade by switching to its fourth syndicate.
Sherman’s Lagoon started in Jim’s local newspaper The Escondido Times-Advocate on May 13, 1991, and was self-syndicated by Jim’s Pacific Press Features. The comic picked up a few more papers by the time Jim signed up with Creators Syndicate the same year as the debut. The first Sherman’s Lagoon daily strip from Creators was for Monday October 14, 1991.* Seven years later saw King Features Syndicate take over distribution beginning on Monday October 17, 1998.* Now, almost 24 years later, Jim Toomey is moving to Andrews McMeel Syndication. Word on the street is that the switch will happen on Sunday May 1, 2022.
* These dates are for dailies. I’m not sure when the Sunday pages switched, or even started
(other than Jim was doing Sundays by 1994).
Andrews McMeel is the publisher of the Sherman’s Lagoon book collections.
AMS has a Sherman’s Lagoon preliminary page up with no information yet,
in the meantime Sherman’s Lagoon appears through King Features Syndicate.
edit: Here’s the AMS notice.
