The Oklahoman Adds Weekly Ed-Op Cartoon Page
Skip to commentsFrom Oklahoman Opinion Page Editor Clytie Bunyan:
It takes talent to capture the essence of an issue or a moment in time, in a few words, if any. Yet that’s exactly what cartoonists do each week in this country and around the world. It’s an art form, a form of journalism produced by illustrators who blend creativity and satire to draw a complicated story. Sometimes they poke holes in the narrative of the day.
Beginning today, we are adding a weekly page of cartoons in Viewpoints. Each week, the page either will highlight a selection of cartoons on various topics or focus on a theme from an issue that has dominated the news in the past week.
The two cartoons on their current “This Week’s Cartoon Picks” (for non-subscribers) are USA Today cartoonists as The Oklahoman is a Gannett newspaper. Time will tell if that pattern will continue with their new weekly cartoon page. But it is a positive for all cartoonists.
