But those cases were only a few decades old.
Now cartoonist Kevin Huizenga has discovered a drawing by Gasoline Alley creator Frank King that predates the meme by 100 years.
While visiting the comics show at the Chicago Cultural Center the other day … I saw a pre-echo of the famous distracted boyfriend meme in this strip by Frank King, which appeared on April 2, 1916 in the Chicago Tribune.
This is now the earliest known image. An almost exact reflection!
