Jeff Philcrantz – RIP

Cartoonist Jeff Philcrantz has passed away.

Jeffrey R. (Jeff) Philcrantz
July 26, 1946 – September 6, 2021

carpenter, musician, cartoonist

From the obituary:

Jeff graduated from Newburyport High School, class of 1964 and then went on to Northern Essex and then UMASS Amherst where he studied Physics and Astronomy. He then enlisted in the Air Force where he spent four years as an intelligence analyst in Japan and Washington DC.

Jeff had a variety of interests. At the age of 15 he taught himself how to play the drums and continued to play music his entire life.

Jeff utilized his artistic skills to build a successful career in the field of finished carpentry and woodworking. His craftsmanship can be found all over New England.

Jeff was also a cartoonist. Starting in the eighties on a whim he started submitting some of his cartoons to various publishing sources including “The Paper” in Newburyport. He eventually got a contract from the magazine “Funny Times” and became a steady contributor to the magazine. It was a perfect outlet for his offbeat humor and was great to have his cartoons published alongside some of the best and well known cartoonists.
