Canadian artist and cartoonist Alan King has passed away.

Guy Badeaux is reporting the sad news and providing a profile:

It is with great shock and sadness that I learned of the passing last night, at St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto, of Alan King, former editorial cartoonist at The Ottawa Citizen.

In 1979 he joined the Citizen and worked as regular art critic, wrote book reviews and became its’ full-time editorial cartoonist when Rusins Kaufmanis retired.

He left the Citizen in 1997, after the paper was bought by Conrad Black and took a conservative turn.
