The Far Side (Gary Larson) and Webcomic Name (Alex Norris) Nominated for Humor Webby Award

Gary Larson’s The Far Side and Alex Norris’ Webcomic Name sites have each been nominated for Best Humor Website as part of the 24th Annual Webby Awards.

Other (non-cartoon) nominees are

  • Ellentube (Ellen DeGeneres)
  • Funny or Die
  • Avenue 5: Juddspace Faux Tourism Microsite (HBO)

Voting for The 24th Webby Awards is open through May 7, 2020.

The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

Established in 1996 during the Web’s infancy, The Webbys is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS)—a 2000+ member judging body. The Academy is comprised of Executive Members—leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities—and Associate Members who are former Webby Winners, Nominees and other Internet professionals.

And, of course, while the awards ceremony will go on, the show will not.

From Variety (which got three Webby nominations):

The Webby Awards, recognizing the best internet content and creators, has canceled its 24th annual awards show, becoming the latest event to be nixed in light of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The kudos-fest had been scheduled to take place May 11, 2020, in New York City. However, the Webby Awards will still be handed out this year. Nominees will be announced in the coming weeks with the launch of the Webby People’s Voice public voting, and organizers plan to announce winners with an “internet celebration” that will include the franchise’s trademark Webby 5-Word Speech.
