Diddling with Doodling

Kids’ author Mo Willems is here to make Mondays a little better for a while:
Starting today, he’ll release a new “Lunch Doodle” video each Monday at 1 PM.

The Kennedy Center and Mo Willems informs:

When I became the Kennedy Center Education Artist-in-Residence, I didn’t realize the most impactful word in that title would be ‘Residence.’

With millions of learners attempting to grow and educate themselves in new circumstances, I have decided to invite everyone into my studio once a day for the next few weeks.

Grab some paper and pencils, pens, or crayons.  We are going to doodle together and explore ways of writing and making.

In his first LUNCH DOODLE, Mo welcomes you into his studio at home and guides you through drawing activities using one of his favorite characters as inspiration!

Hat tip to The Washingtonian and Mike Rhode.

Not quite the 22 minutes of Mo’s video is a Sixty-Second Sticky Doodle from Brian Fies,
the creator of A Fire Story.

Brian teases us with, “There may be more of these coming.”

  1. I understood Mo to say this would be every day, not every Monday. Am I wrong?

  2. Thanks, DD! I have a few more Sixty-Second Sticky Doodles lined up. We’ll see how far I can go. Also, I didn’t steal the idea from Mo, whose doodles are 22 minutes longer than mine because he’s 22 times better.

  3. Jim – I’m thinking Mo is spending a few weeks there doing the tutorials every day, but the Kennedy Center will be posting the videos weekly; stretching the posting of videos into months.

Brian – Sorry if I implied you got the idea from Mo. I just thought it was great Monday synchronicity and so put both in one post.

  4. You didn’t imply that at all! I was just joking. Thought it was funny that after I’d recorded a couple of my doodles I saw Mo’s post and said, “well, I guess I’m not as original as I thought I was!” But there’s plenty of bandwidth and boredom for all of us.
