Beginning March 3, 2020 the Midland Daily News is featuring the cartoons of Leroy Martin on Tuesdays.
Today, we are announcing a new weekly feature that will be in your Midland Daily News: A local editorial cartoon.
Each Tuesday will feature a local editorial cartoon by Leroy Martin, 71, of Midland, who has been drawing editorial cartoons since he was a young child.
Martin retired from the Midland County Road Commission in 2000. He has had some of his work published sporadically, including first in the Midland Daily News in 2002.
Martin says he doesn’t speculate about politics, though he doesn’t shy away from controversial topics.
Regarding his weekly editorial cartoon series, Martin plans to pen cartoons about all sorts of topics, from flu shots to local happenings such as Shelterhouse’s upcoming move to its new facility.
While other newspapers are discontinuing editorial pages and cartoons, the Daily News is committed to its focus on localizing our opinion content, and we believe part of that is having a local cartoonist.
