AWARD-WINNING EDITORIAL CARTOONIST KEVIN KALLAUGHER (KAL) JOINS ANDREWS MCMEEL SYNDICATION
KANSAS CITY, MO (February 28, 2020) — Andrews McMeel Syndication (AMS) is proud to announce the addition of Kevin Kallaugher (KAL) to its renowned stable of editorial cartoonists. KAL has won more than his fair share of awards over the course of his long career, including the Herblock Prize (2015), Thomas Nast Award (2014, 2005, 2004, 1999), Berryman Award (2018, 2002) and Rex Babin Award (2019). KAL was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Cartooning in 2015.
KAL is the current staff editorial cartoonist for The Baltimore Sun and The Economist. KAL’s work has appeared in more than 100 publications worldwide, including Le Monde, Der Spiegel, Pravda, Krokodil, Daily Yomiuri, The Australian, The International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, TIME, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, and The Washington Post.
“Decades of work for The Economist and The Baltimore Sun have made KAL the best-known cartoonist working on the international stage today,” said Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Matt Wuerker of Politico and AMS. “His elegant crosshatched caricatures and pithy punchlines always pack a punch — punches that are felt from Baltimore to Washington, D.C., from Bejing to Mumbai. KAL is world-class, the real deal … a cartoonists’ cartoonist.”
Colleague and former neighbor Matt Davies of Newsday had this to say about KAL: “KAL’s crow quill pen’s line is as distinctive as his signature wit and masterful attention to fine detail. His ability to insult the powerful solely through caricature humbles most other working cartoonists. In person, his kind, enthusiastic, light-up-a-room demeanor belies the steely-eyed professional political critic within. Thankfully — or unforgivably, depending on your perspective — KAL is the main reason I was inextricably drawn toward the dark art of political cartooning.”
“We are honored and thrilled to add KAL’s unique talent and exceptional wit to our roster,” said AMS Director and Managing Editor Clint Hooker. “There are few better at conveying so much, in such detail, in so small a space.”
