The Spurgeon Family and the Billy Ireland are setting up a memorial service for Tom.
Our community is grieving an incalculable loss today. Thomas Spurgeon, friend, donor, member of our National Advisory Council and Executive Director of Cartoon Crossroads Columbus – CXC has passed away.
In lieu of a funeral service, a public memorial for Tom Spurgeon will be held in Columbus, Ohio at The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum on Saturday, December 14th. BICLM and Tom’s family invite all who knew, loved, and admired him to join us and share stories about the great life of a great man.

Thomas Spurgeon, the Cartoon Crossroads Columbus executive director known as a fierce supporter of artists, died Wednesday, according to his family. He was 50.
His family said the official cause of death is unknown.
“It’s an insurmountable loss,” said Caitlin McGurk, the associate curator for outreach and assistant professor at Ohio State University’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum. “He was really a centering force in the (comics) community in Columbus.”
A public memorial will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Billy Ireland, 1813 N. High St. There are no current plans for a funeral, his brother Whit said.
Spurgeon is survived by his mother, Sandra “Sunny” McFarren, and brothers, Dan and Whit Spurgeon.
