Caricatures vs. Generics vs. Symbols

I am always a wee bit disappointed when Paul Berge doesn’t spend Saturdays 100 years in the past, but today is a not-altogether-unusual exception. Paul’s blog this Saturday has an intriguing short essay on how and when he, as an editorial cartoonist, chooses to use caricatures or the standard elephant and donkey symbols when drawing a political cartoon. Or even decide to just use generic people.
