Word on the street is that the National Cartoonists Society 2020 Reuben Awards Weekend
will be held the first weekend in June 2020 and in Kansas City, Missouri.
(A cautionary note: neither the date nor the place has been confirmed.)
The 2019 NCSFest and Reuben Awards Dinner broke the recent tradition of holding the convention on Memorial Day weekend. That seemed to be greeted with approval from both the members and the populace attending the festival. So maybe holding The Dinner on the first weekend of June will be the second step of staging it around, but not on, the last weekend on May.
As seen above, from the Tom Richmond poster, it will not be the first time that the party heads to Kansas City. But 2020 will also see the celebrating of the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Universal Press Syndicate/Andrews McMeel in that city in 1970.
There will be melancholy moments as the late, great Lee Salem is remembered in his hometown.
A reminder:
While the Reuben Weekend is still the better part of a year away,
the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship for college student cartoonists
entry deadline is only three months from now.
