Books Comic strips Interviews

It’s a Cartoonist’s Life for Lincoln Peirce

Lincoln Peirce, the creator of the “Big Nate” comic strip, spoke in front of a sold-out crowd at One Longfellow Square Tuesday about his love for “Peanuts,” his career as a cartoonist and the inspiration for some of his characters.

Peirce was interviewed by the Portland Press Herald’s digital director and resident comics fan Chad Gilley for the newspaper’s event series MaineVoices Live.

Lasting a bit over an hour Lincoln discusses the process of getting syndicated and what follows when actually getting into newspapers. That is followed by a look at some of his characters and why they are the way they are. Ending with audience questions about the Big Nate comic strip, Big Nate books, and Max and the Midknights.

At times informative, at times humorous, at times both. It is an enjoyable interview.
