At Comics Kingdom today a number of John Rose’s stablemates
joined in wishing Barney Google a Happy One Hundredth.
Not the first time the Mitchell family has visited Hootin’ Holler.
For the Great Comic Strip Switcheroonie (April 1, 1997) Fred Lasswell had them visit the area.
A couple of John Rose’s neighbors also sent best wishes.
Next strip to hit 100 is Thimble Theatre (starring Popeye), in December 2019.
Here’s to the next 100 years!
Thank you so much for mentioning this! I really appreciated all those special birthday shout outs! I would like to add that there was one other King Features comic strip, Pros & Cons, that featured Barney Google. Also, Garfield wished the strip happy birthday on his Facebook with some special art.
Congratulations again to John Rose and “Barney Google and Snuffy Smith” as the memories of the legacy of Billy DeBeck and Fred Lasswell live on! Thank you for including the “Lum and Abner” tribute in this coverage.
Y’know John, I had that Pros and Cons on my list, then somehow fumbled it.
I added it to the entry – thanks to you, and apologies to Kieran for the slip.

Thank you, D.D.!!
The Mutts comic is the best. I nearly spat out my tea.
