Comic Character as Presidential Nominee?

Pogo, Howard the Duck, Snoopy, Bill the Cat, and other comic characters
have had runs at being the President of the United States.

Yes, even Alfred E. Neuman.

Now Alfred E. Neuman has been introduced into the 2020 race by President Trump.

“Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States,” Trump told POLITICO in an exclusive interview Friday.

Pete Buttigieg feigned(?) ignorance of knowing who Alfred E. Neuman was:

“I’ll be honest. I had to Google that,” he said. “I guess it’s just a generational thing. I didn’t get the reference. It’s kind of funny, I guess.”

Of course the Pete Buttigieg = Alfred E. Neuman memes are flooding social media.

MAD Magazine is not staying out of this news cycle:

“Who is Pete Buttigieg? Must be a generational thing.”

Conservative site Breitbart reports on the current fad in the Twitterverse.

But there are other MAD images trending:

That last with Jared Kushner as Alfred E. Neuman.

So will this backfire on Trump as these and similar images get wider circulation?

Meanwhile…
MAD magazine is reaping a publicity bonanza.
