Intelligent Life to End Print Syndication

David Reddick’s Intelligent Life will stop syndicating for print later this year.

No official word from David or King Features Syndicate, but Jeremy Boyer, on an upcoming comics change in The (Auburn, N.Y.) Citizen, writes

Readers of The Citizen will begin to see Macanudo appear in the Dec. 23 edition. It will be replacing Intelligent Life, which is switching to digital-only publication at the end of the year.

Whether December 22, 2018 (a Saturday) is the end of the print Intelligent Life or not is something that is not verified. Also, will King Features continue as the digital syndicator of Intelligent Life or will David take it on himself? And what will be the frequency of the Intelligent Life webcomic?

Intelligent Life began syndication on July 7, 2014. It was the only comic strip that started national syndication in 2014.

David Reddick has had a long history with webcomics (The Trek Life, Legend of Bill, more) and continues to contributes gag cartoons to publications. David spent a number of years with Paws, Inc., including drawing the Garfield comic strip. Currently, along with Intelligent Life, he is the assistant artist on the Blondie comic strip, aiding Blondie head artist John Marshall.

Drifting back to the Jeremy Boyer column

If you picked up Wednesday’s print edition of The Citizen or looked inside your home delivery or e-edition copy, you hopefully saw a special section devoted to comic strips that was called “Bubbles,” a play on the dialogue and thought clouds so commonly associated with newspaper strips.

This was the second time we’ve published this special section, and this version’s content evolved from the feedback that our parent company, Lee Enterprises, gathered from readers here in the Cayuga County area and throughout the United States.

It seems Lee Enterprises has issued a new edition of “Bubbles”.
I haven’t yet seen the new insert.

As of this writing (7:30 am EST) it has not been updated on Comics Kingdom

and the Comics Kingdom feed to newspaper websites has reverted to the Nov. 24 strip.

No word from King Features or David Reddick.
