It’s an R. C. Harvey Free-For-All!
Skip to commentsNoted comics and cartoon news reporter and historian Robert C. Harvey has opened up his site for all.
Usually behind a (minimal) paywall, once a year Bob opens up the current and archived offerings for all to view, and for the next month that time is now!
All of the Rants & Raves postings (through August) and all 19 years of archival Rants & Raves and all Harv’s Hindsights—all are open and accessible to all viewers, $ubscribers and non-$ubscribers. Hoorah!
Usually those features are accessible only to those who have paid the ridiculously low subscription fee of $3.95/quarter, but during Open Access Month (from now until the end of August), non-paying visitors will be able to read in their entirety the regular postings of Rants & Raves, a once every three weeks round-up of cartooning news and reviews of comic books, graphic novels, and comic strips (going back to May 1999) AND everything in Harv’s Hindsight, a on-going collection of cartoonist biographies and deep-thinking critical analyses of Great Works of the Cartooning Arts.
Bob’s reporting on current cartooning concerns can be read at his Rants & Raves postings, the latest details the recent Rob Rogers travesty and the Reuben Awards weekend among much else.
As mentioned above his reporting of current events goes back almost 20 year and is available (for free!) on his Rants & Raves Archives pages.
But there’s more! Bob is a noted historian and his history lessons are available at Harv’s Hindsights. This year’s topics have include Mort Walker, Rob Rogers, Cartoons of the Roaring Twenties, Bud Grace/The Piranha Club, and more. Add to that 18 years of articles about comics history archived.
So go to Bob’s site and for the next month whenever you see that “members or subscribers click here” link? You just go ahead and click, because until the end of August you are a member – on the house!
