Bubbles – a Lee Enterprises tabloid comic insert

Bubbles: Drawing on Wit These Comics Have Something to Say

Bubbles is a special Lee Enterprises tabloid-sized “tribute to the wit of all cartoonists,” as expressed in the page 2 introduction.

The insert gathers comic strips and panels from Andrews McMeel Syndication, Creators Syndicate, King Features Syndicate, and Tribune Content Agency (no Washington Post Writers Group material). The section is written by David Fitzsimmons of the Arizona Daily Star and Gayle Warland of the Wisconsin State Journal. Phil Hands of the Wisconsin State Journal is credited as cartoonist (cover?).

The strips and panels, presented one title per page, are those distributed by the syndicates from the May 14th (Monday) through the May 20th (Sunday), 2018 week at six dailies/one Sunday per page. (Daddy Daze samples are from ??? – the strip doesn’t debut until June 17.) Some vertical panels are presented with no Sunday strips and are from the May 7 (Monday) to May 19 (Saturday) dates at 12 dailies per page. Each page contains a very brief introduction to the comic and the cartoonist featured on that page. The centerspread of this 48 page insert contains interviews with Zits’ Jerry Scott & Jim Borgman, and with Pearls Before Swine’s Stephan Pastis.

Below is a view of the index.

If you live in or near a city that has a Lee Enterprises paper you have had or may yet have a chance at getting the insert.
A big tip of the Hatlo hat to Paul Berge.
