From Niagra This Week:
Bell-Lundy has invited some of her comic friends to form a speaker series aimed at inspiring a new generation of comic creators. She has teamed up with the Grimsby Public Library to offer three evenings of comic-centred discussion beginning next month. The speaker series runs the first Thursday of the month from February and to April and will feature two different speakers per event.
The series opens Feb. 4 with Paul Gilligan, creator of Pooch Cafe, and Rina Piccolo, of Tina’s Groove. The topic for the evening is “The Many Paths to a Career in Comics” and will look at the different avenues available to cartoonists. The March event will focus on women in comics in celebration of International Women’s Day. Bell-Lundy and Cathy Thorne will present “Women Just Wanna Have Fun! Cartoons For and About Women” on March 3. The series concludes April 7 with a presentation by John Martz and Patricia Storms, both award-winning children’s authors, on “How to Have a Career in Children’s Books.”
This will be a great series from a talented group of artists.
Looks like fun!
