Richard Thompson wins Eisner for Best Humor Publication

Cul de Sac creator Richard Thompson has been awarded this year’s Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication for his The Complete Cul de Sac collection. Chris Sparks accepted the award on his behalf. He posted on Facebook afterward, “Cul de Sac, the last great comic strip won the greatest cartooning award, The Eisner. The world is a happier place because of Richard Thompson.”

Richard responded to the award on his blog:

I want to thank the judges, everyone who voted, especially for me, and for courage in the face of wicked witches above & beyond I’d like to thank Nick Galifianakis, David Apatoff and Chris Sparks, who had to accept the Eisner on my behalf (photo below) because I’m scared of public speaking and was busy that night.

Congratulations, Richard. It is indeed a well-deserved honor.

Also nominated in that category:
Dog Butts and Love. And Stuff Like That. And Cats. by Jim Benton (NBM)
Groo vs. Conan, Sergio Aragonés, Mark Evanier, & Tom Yeates (Dark Horse)
Rocket Raccoon, Skottie Young (Marvel)
Superior Foes of Spider-Man, Nick Spencer & Steve Lieber (Marvel)
