The Broadway musical Fun Home, based on the graphic memoir of the same name by Alison Bechdel, was nominated for 12 Tony awards and walked away with the big prize of Best Musical as well as Best Lead Actor, Best Direction, Best Book and Best Original Score.
I’m not sure how much involvement Alison had in the musical, but a hearty congratulations to her and those who brought her graphic memoir to life.
I love the theatre and I’d love to see this musical but more than one pundit lamented the fact that “The King and I”, “An American in Paris” and “The Elephant Man” all won awards lasts night. In our world it only proves the American theatre and the American comic strip continue the tradition of boldly marching into the the 1900’s.
