State Historical Society of Missouri celebrates Tom Engelhardt today

From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

On March 12 the State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO) will host a reception honoring Tom Engelhardt and the evocative editorial cartoons showcased in his new book, Four Turbulent Decades: A Cartoon History of America, 1962?2001, which will be released at the celebration.

Featuring a selection of drawings by the longtime St. Louis Post-Dispatch political cartoonist, the book, published by the State Historical Society, brings together images of pivotal events ranging from the President Kennedy assassination to the 9/11 attacks. The works were chosen from SHSMO?s collection by Art Curator Joan Stack, who also provides narratives that add historical context and reveal Engelhardt?s artistic techniques.

Tom Engelhardt was the staff cartoonist for 35 years and retired in 1997. Below is a television episode of Living St. Louis about Tom’s career. Below that is an example of his work.
