Video: New York Times profiles Lalo Alcaraz

Great video profile by the New York Times on Lalo Alcaraz, creator of La Cucaracha and a writer for the TV series Bordertown.

He offers rapid-fire responses to news events and is a voracious user of social media. His drawings often feature Chicano culture and characters, including a recurring street vendor who sells tacos, a coffee shop called Barriobucks and Day of the Dead imagery. A recent cartoon about National Hispanic American Heritage Monthasked incredulous readers whether they knew that not all Latinos had accents.

?I was trying for a cut above the average Chicano humor and trying to go a little more intellectual, a little more sarcastic and a little more absurd,? Mr. Alcaraz said. He says his critics, particularly Latino ones, have an ?irony deficiency.?
