Nacho Guarache creator Leo Garza passes at age 57

Sad news from the San Antonio Express-News:

Former San Antonio Express-News cartoonist Leo Garza, known for his Nacho Guarache strips, died Saturday after a battle with kidney cancer.

Garza, 57, worked as a political cartoonist for the Express-News for two decades before leaving the paper in 2007. His work was praised by a number of publications including Texas Monthly during his career.

Obituary also found at the Express-News.

I’m a fan of local comic strips and Nacho Guarache was one of the last ones that still ran with regularity. Leo was laid off from the Express-News in 2007. His strip came to a end after a 20 year run.
