You may not know that Zits and Baby Blues writer Jerry Scott also does oil painting. He has an exhibit of his work at the 1821 Gallery & Studios in Fresno, CA. The exhibit runs through May 31.
“I’ve spent the last 25 years being the guy behind the scenes,” Scott muses about how his comics career evolved. “That wasn’t my first choice, because I’m a visual person. So all this was sort of in response to being the writer and not the artist on my comic strips.”
As for the subject matter of his paintings, it was a no-brainer: “I always wanted to be a cowboy. I was the kid who got the new Roy Rogers outfit every year.”
Nice. Got a Gregory Manchess, Gary Kelly feel.
